Robert A. M. Stern

Robert A. M. Stern was a distinguished architect, educator, and historian whose influence spanned seven decades. In 1969, he established the firm known today as RAMSA, building it on principles of excellence, community responsibility, and the blending of past, present, and future through design. A Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, Stern received numerous honors including the 2017 Topaz Medallion, the 2011 Driehaus Prize, and the Vincent Scully Prize. He served as Dean of the Yale School of Architecture from 1998 to 2016 and held leadership roles at Columbia University's Temple Hoyne Buell Center and Historic Preservation Program. A prolific author, his acclaimed New York book series spanning 1880-2020 includes a National Book Award nominee. His work resides in permanent collections at MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and other major institutions worldwide.
