Moshe Safdie

Moshe Safdie is an architect, urban planner, educator, theorist, and author with a celebrated 50-year career exploring socially responsible design through a comprehensive and humane philosophy. A citizen of Israel, Canada, and the United States, Safdie graduated from McGill University and apprenticed with Louis I. Kahn before returning to Montréal to oversee the master plan for the 1967 World Exposition. He established his firm in 1964 to realize Habitat '67, a turning point in modern architecture. His wide-ranging portfolio includes cultural, educational, and civic institutions; neighborhoods and public parks; housing; mixed-use developments; and master plans across North and South America, the Middle East, and Asia. His honors include the Gold Medal from both the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and the American Institute of Architects, and the Wolf Prize in Architecture.
