Biography
M. Arthur Gensler Jr., FAIA, was an industry icon and entrepreneur who founded M. Arthur Gensler Jr. & Associates, Inc. in 1965 with his wife Drue and James Follett. Over his 65-year career, Art transformed a small practice into the world's largest and most admired design firm, with more than 5,000 people across 50 global locations. A pioneer in interior architecture and tenant development, he revolutionized the business of architecture through his collaborative 'one-firm firm' culture and client-first approach. His 'inside-out' methodology, which examined the user journey in buildings, established the human experience framework still embraced today. Art served as CEO until 2005 and Chairman until 2010, leading Gensler to receive the American Institute of Architects' Architecture Firm Award in 2000, the profession's highest collaborative honor.
